WestHort's Wraparound Tag Specification Guide

Avoid making the common mistakes that many of our customers make in ordering our wraparound tags by using this handy guide.

Roll Unwind Orientation

Side-by-Side Orientation

End-to-End Orientation
Side-by-Side oriented treetags describe the way that the rolls unwind from the roll when placed in the printer. They are usually wider than 6" which limits the printers that can take this kind of treetag. The following printers are the only ones in our product line that can use side-by-side treetags:
End-to-End oriented treetags are oriented perpedicular to side-by-side treetags. They enable printers with smaller openings to print on long treetags. These tree tags work well in our regular thermal transfer printers which have openings of 4".
Please note: Although End-to-End treetags are narrower than side-by-side tags, make sure to calculate the total width of the end-to-end treetag to make sure it will fit your printer.
For example, our TH10105 treetags are 1" x 10" tags that are 5 tags across. That means the total width will be 1" x 5-across = 5" and will not fit in our regular thermal transfer printers. However, our TH07075 treetags are 0.75" x 7" and so the total width will be 0.75" x 5-across = 3.75" and will fit in our regular thermal transfer printers

Nursery Media Material

WestHort uses 3 types of nursery material to make its wraparound tags:

Enviroflex (Polypropylene) HDPE (Polyethylene) Inkjet (Comes in both Enviroflex or HDPE)
Enviroflex is made from polypropylene and the material tends to be thicker and less stiff than HDPE. An additional advantage of Enviroflex is that color versions have the color mixed in throughout the material making it longer lasting in the elements.
Wraparound tag part numbers that start with "TH" are ones that use Enviroflex material.
HDPE stand for "high density polyethylene". HDPE is a thinner material than our Enviroflex material and is stiffer -- it has more of a paper "feel" than Enviroflex. Because of it's thinness, it is less durable than Enviroflex and will fade faster.
Wraparound tag part numbers that start with "TS" are ones that use HDPE material.
Inkjet material can be either Enviroflex or HDPE (TH and TS, respectively), but we modify the material to work with inkjet printers. Our inkjet material will have "IJ" in the part number to indicate it is to be used with our modified inkjet nursery printer. Make sure to look for this special inkjet version.

Pull-Through Hole Shape

WestHort's wraparounds have 3 styles of pull-through holes:

Football Style

Keyhole Style

Legacy Style
Football Style is the most recent version of our pull-through holes. The hole resembles a football. We find that label printer sensors have an easier time registering this kind of hole when printing. This style also tends to have fewer technical problems overall. Keyhole Style resembles a keyhole and has a distinct circle as part of the keyhole design. Also tends to have fewer technical problems. Legacy Style is the oldest version and is shaped more like a long teardrop. Label printer sensors have the hardest time registering this hole. People with older treetag applicators tend to order this type of hole.

Perforated or UnPerforated

Non-Perforated

Perforated
Non-Perforated treetags have no perforation at the end of the tag. Perforated treetags are the same length as non-perforated ones with the exception of a perforation about 2" from the end for tear-off.
